Medallion, 2025

A defining feature of a newly renovated Chelsea lobby is a custom 3D-printed architectural surface designed to add depth and artistry to the space.

OUR APPROACH

We used our advanced algorithms to generate a dynamic pattern of linear ridges that morph and transform within the surface’s boundary. The final design captures a sculptural, bouquet-like composition, seamlessly assembled to appear as a single monolithic surface.

Embedded into the wall and framed by 3D-printed knife edges, the piece is further enhanced by integrated lighting that illuminates its intricate details, seamlessly blending into the overall aesthetic while showcasing the possibilities of digital fabrication.

THE PROCESS

Medallion was printed in such a way as to conceal the seams in the piece by echoing them in the design. The final product was printed in PLA (a biodegradable, bioplastic made from renewable plant-based material).

“It feels like a Greek temple… even the medallion itself looks like a statue. I love the design and the execution.”
