Thrice Upon A Time

Inspired by the vibrant visual language of the Gay Rights Movement's reaction to the AIDS crisis, this 3D-printed luminaire represents the movement's continued resilience post-Stonewall and creates a dialogue with Keith Haring's 'Once Upon a Time' mural in the bathroom of the nearby New York City LGBTQ+ Center.

Thrice Upon a Time was sustainably printed using an additive process to reduce waste and is 100% recyclable. The print took 12 days to complete.

Once Upon A Time

One of the most renowned artworks at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York City is Keith Haring's 1989 mural titled "Once Upon A Time." This mural honors sexual freedom during the period before the AIDS crisis. Haring created it as part of The Center Show, which commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising—an event widely regarded as the beginning of the LGBTQ+ rights movement in the United States.

Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center

The Stonewall Rebellion is a historic symbol of the LGBTQ+ rights movement and a beacon of proud visibility in the face of discrimination. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center™℠ (SNMVC), will act as the heart of the 7.7 acre monument and carry out its mission to bring to light the history and stories of the rebellion that started in its walls in 1969.

The SNMVC is first LGBTQ+ visitor center within the National Park Service, and is an initiative led by Pride Live™℠, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to accelerating awareness and support for the LGBTQ+ community via social advocacy and community engagement to advance the fight for full equality. This new community hub will be housed in the eastern building of the original Stonewall Inn location at 51 Christopher Street, where it will welcome visitors and provide information about the historic rebellion and its role in queer liberation.
